Kids - hmmmmmm
Day off today having finished a week doing kids. Worse than that it wasn't even the junior rippers, who are the kids learning to windsurf who are usually a bit older and more interesting. No it was the surfbusters, the 5 to 13 year olds (bit of a gap there) who need looking after from 10.15 to 6.15. Bollocks when the wind blows.
It would be fair to say that when Paul told me I was doing them on the Sunday evening (we'd been stiched up by another centre who had one of our nannies) I wasn't too happy. In fact I went off and sulked for the rest of the evening! The next morning I met them. A 5 year old, a 6 year old, an 8 year old, a 9 year old, a 10 year old and two 11 year olds. Great. It got a bit better when one of the 11 year olds decided to join the junior rippers and the 5 year old stayed with the smaller kids so I ended up with 5. And in truth it wasn't as bad as all that. There was only one day when it was windy all afternoon till I managed to get rid of them and then it dropped! The parents were pretty good. I think they could sense my desperation about 5.30 ish when it was windy!
So what did we do? Well although Neilson talks about variety the kids didn't want any of that. Hours playing in the pool, hours on the dart sailing, windsurfing and play station. That was about it.
The best thing about being a nanny is that it's been my springboard to the top as next week I manage the centre! About as different as it gets! Paul the manager is off home today, Matt is taking over and he's got his week off this week, so here I am. Did it last year so not expecting it to be too bad, although we are a bit busy and a bit tight with staff. The week after it eases as we have no kids, and the week after that I should have a few days off (using up my holiday before I come home).
Three weeks today I'll be on a flight home (where from knowing Neilson I'm not sure!). Can't wait?!
